Finca Exotica Volunteer program - top
Finca Exotica Volunteers
Finca Exotica is an ecolodge, organic farm and part of Saimiri Wildlife Refuge, located in the rainforest of the Osa Peninsula, Playa Carate.
Vision: We are a sustainable living center, which offers a way for people to learn, teach and develop ideas for sustainability, art and healthy living.
Mission: To preserve the environment around us and to work in a sustainable manner. We live on just 3% of our land in order to give absolute protection to the remaining 97%, in line with our management plan for the Saimiri Refuge.
Projects: We open the doors to all people who seek a place for their workshops, research and hobbies whilst cooperating with the daily work carried out at Finca Exotica. Because we have to coordinate the number of volunteers that can stay in our facilities, we ask that you send your request with your CV and a photograph a minimum 3 months in advance. Please give us some time to respond to your request.

Finca Exotica is a participating partner in the community´s Sea Turtle
Conservation Program. - top
The goal of the program is to guarantee the
health and ecological success of the sea turtles nesting on the Osa
Peninsula, Costa Rica, by integrating conservation, research, and
educational outreach. .
Volunteers come from all over the world in order to help save sea
turtles. As part of this conservation program, we have protected more
than 9,000 sea turtle hatchlings in the last nesting season and
carried out a number of educational projects to raise local awareness
about the importance of conservation on the Osa Peninsula. In order
for the program to successfully operate over this 18 km stretch,
volunteers are needed! Finca Exotica is providing special sea turtle
volunteer rates from July to December. With your help, we can
continue to protect these wonderful and mysterious mariners into the
future!

Turtles update - top
It’s been a very busy season for our favorite shelled ladies. Since the beginning of the Osa’s official turtle season start back in July, we have had a reported 422 females leaving their home, the sea, and touching base on Carate beach- incredible! We have had sightings of both Olive Ridley and Green turtles, although we have also had hawksbill and leatherbacks visiting us in the last few years so you never know, watch this space!
The commitment and effort of various participants has allowed us to record very valuable data on sea turtle visits to Carate beach. A huge thank you to all of the locals and volunteers, as well as MINAET, who helped us this year- It would not have been possible without your help!
While we are learning more effective ways to curb natural predators of sea turtle eggs, human poaching continues. Having a larger presence on the beach day and night is yet another battle we are looking to conquer and so for this reason, we are always happy to invite volunteers to stay with us here at Finca Exotica. Please get in touch with us at fincaexotica@gmail.com.

Turtles & Families - top
The peak sea turtle nesting season is upon us and Finca Exotica is gearing up for another year of protecting these fragile species. We have been participating in the Osa Peninsulas conservation efforts for 4 years. This year Carate decided to deepen its involvement and create the Sea Turtle Committee of Carate, which plans to develop and manage its own hatchery. This year the committee aims to save more turtles than last year, have someone on watch 24 hours a day and continue with our public education campaign.
This is the perfect opportunity for your family to take a vacation that is fun, educational and affordable! Last year the families that joined us raved about the experience of watching a larger than expected marine turtle lay more ping pong ball looking eggs than they could count! This year we are making it even more enticing for families to join us in reaching our conservation goals with a Family Educational Escape Package. The package includes a 5 night stay in one of our family cabins, three fresh meals a day, a half day tour to a three-tiered waterfall or lagoon kayak, a sea turtle presentation, 2 night walks, and the option to participate in the daily management of the hatchery.
