Sea Turtle Conservation program - top
Finca Exotica is a participating partner in Friends of the Osa’s Sea Turtle Conservation Program. The goal of the program is to guarantee the health and ecological success of the sea turtles nesting on the Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica, by integrating conservation, research, and educational outreach.
Volunteers come from all over the world in order to help save sea turtles. As part of this conservation program, we have protected more than 25,000 sea turtle hatchlings over the last three nesting seasons and carried out a number of educational projects to raise local awareness about the importance of conservation on the Osa Peninsula. In 2010, the Sea Turtle Conservation Program expanded from Piro and Pejeperro beaches to also cover Rio Oro and Carate beaches. In order for the program to successfully operate over this 18 km stretch, volunteers are needed! Finca Exotica is providing special sea turtle volunteer rates from July to December. With your help, we can continue to protect these wonderful and mysterious mariners into the future!

Turtles, turtles and more turtles - top
It’s been a very busy season for our favorite shelled ladies. Since the beginning of the Osa’s official turtle season start back in July, we have had a reported 422 females leaving their home, the sea, and touching base on Carate beach- incredible! We have had sightings of both Olive Ridley and Green turtles, although we have also had hawksbill and leatherbacks visiting us in the last few years so you never know, watch this space!
The commitment and effort of various participants has allowed us to record very valuable data on sea turtle visits to Carate beach. A huge thank you to all of the locals and volunteers, as well as MINAET, who helped us this year- It would not have been possible without your help!
While we are learning more effective ways to curb natural predators of sea turtle eggs, human poaching continues. Having a larger presence on the beach day and night is yet another battle we are looking to conquer and so for this reason, we are always happy to invite volunteers to stay with us here at Finca Exotica.
