Finca Exotica has the goal to be a center for sustainability that is built on the foundations of land preservation, organic food production, eco infrastructure, and education programs for customers. We are well on our way and excited to provide you with a biological refuge, organic farm, clean energy, organic food, and farm tours.

Refuge - top
Finca Exotica is part of and was the founding member of the “Refugio Saimiri de Vide Silvestre Mixto” that was established in 2007 to protect over 300 acre of land that is home to
most of the species that live on the Osa Peninsula: 400 species of trees, 160 species of mammals, 300 species of birds, 25 species of reptiles, 30 amphibians and 1000’s of insects making this one of the most biological diverse places on the planet. This is a great place to complete biological research.

Organic Farm - top
This organic farm has a botanical garden, green house, pigs, chickens and ducks. We started here in 2002 with a small chicken cube, shade house nursery and planting of the properties cleared areas. Since then we have planted well over a thousand trees, about 120 varieties of tropical fruit, 7 bamboos for future construction, herbs, medicinal and food crops. We are building a new chicken house now!.

Infrastructure - top
As you relax and enjoy the nature you can be sure that the impact of this business has been reviewed by the local staff to ensure that it is minimized. Here at Finca Exotica we have taken the time to look at all the interactions with our environment to minimize our impacts. The areas we are focusing on for minimizing impact are staff policies, clean energy, low impact construction, product selection, and waste management.
- Policies – we established procedures for staff to utilize for food disposal, chemical usage, energy consumption, and customer interaction.
- Energy – you can enjoy clean solar and hydro energy in the community locations to read your book at night, listen to music, or have that cold beverage. Soon we will be producing methane gas from the pig farm.
- Construction – the lodging you will be staying in is mostly built to return to mother earth when it gets old. Most of the materials are wood, bamboo, palm leaves, etc.
- Product Selection – you can be sure that the equipment, food, and other purchased materials utilize to serve you have been evaluated for sustainability.
- Waste Management – our organic waste gets added to the compost or pigs food, recyclables go to Puerto Jimenez recycle center, and the rest still is going to the dump.

Education - top
You can now enjoy tours of the farm, volunteer in current projects or read from our extensive library on permaculture and botanical plants to build up your knowledge of sustainable living. We plan to develop workshops and a more extensive education program for you to learn sustainable practices that apply here and in your own home.
