Explore la vida silvestre nocturna de Playa Carate y el bosque Tropical

SEA TURTLE nesting tour on Carate beach!

Costa Rica is known worldwide for its conservation efforts, and for its protected areas. The sea turtles here are particulary considered well protected. However, their future still isn’t secured.

This richly bio-diverse area is a vital nesting habitat for four species of sea turtleolive ridley (Lepidochelys olivacea), pacific green or black (Chelonia mydas agassizii), leatherback (Dermochelys coriacea) and hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata).

Carate beach is a really important site on the Pacific Coast of Central America for the intense nesting numbers of four species of sea turtle – all in danger of extinction. It is thought that solitary nesting beaches, like Carate beach, are the beaches which actually maintain the Lepidochelys olivacea populations.

Explore the beach at night, and learn about the amazing journey of sea turtles nesting along the Osa Peninsula
coast! We begin with a 30-45 minute presentation about the natural history of sea turtles and an overview of our
community´s project, followed by a guided beach tour in search of nesting and hatching turtles. This is a rare chance to get up close to these beautiful yet mysterious animals.
